Dr Buket Kara
Lecturer in Clinical PsychologyResearch Interests
I am a mixed-method mental health researcher who is passionate about and committed to improving mental health outcomes in youth, families, and communities, particularly the ones facing social inequalities and multiple disadvantages. I adopt a socio-ecological, co-productive and social justice-oriented approach with a translational agenda, aiming to develop research-informed practice and policy-making to better support youth and families in marginalised communities. Some examples of my work include 1) research to understand the factors underlying mental health and resilience, 2) evaluations of mental health and resilience interventions, and 3) mobilising community assets and facilitating improved cross-sector partnerships, service provision, and research to address health disparities experienced by marginalised communities (e.g., ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+s, coastal communities).
Current Teaching
I am interested in supervising DClinPsy trainees in mental health research in relation to e.g., resilience pathways; social, emotional, and cognitive development; parenting and family functioning; education; school-based interventions; cross-cultural studies; cohort or longitudinal studies; quantitative and/or mixed-method designs.
